Presentation
Olivier Frébourg began to write because of the sudden death of his brother, 5 years his senior, who was an eminent professor of genetic medicine at the Rouen University Hospital. Despite the overwhelming brutality of his death, Olivier Frébourg manages to overcome his anger and find the words to pay him the most beautiful tribute.
Before describing the circumstances of the tragedy, he recalls with great emotion and tenderness the brotherly love, the happy childhood and the unblemished family happiness that united them. Then the tragedy comes: how, in the prime of life and in full health, can someone be hospitalized and taken away so quickly? Olivier Frébourg unflinchingly describes the sequences of events and the medical error that led his brother to a tragic end.
At once a cry of pain and a demand for reparation, Olivier Frébourg raises the existential questions that accompany the death of a loved one. And paints the terrible state of the public hospital’s failure in France.
A publisher and a journalist, Olivier Frébourg is the author of Gaston et Gustave (Prix Décembre 2011) and La Grande Nageuse (Prix Jean Freustié 2014), both available in paperback edition (Folio).
