Presentation
Mothers who compares the merits of their respective nurses; parents who are open to social mix but who choose Catholic private school for their children; young wife who doesn’t know how to speak to her cleaning lady; thirty-year-old woman dedicated to her husband’ career but who fear to be unoccupied…
The women who fill the text by Astrid Eliard all belong to the same social class, the bourgeoisie. “New Bobos” of today, from old French tradition or nouveau riche; they are ridiculous or endearing, alternately. Astrid Eliard depicts her characters with gentle irony; she underlines their tics without judging them through a gallery of highly colourfull portraits.
Astrid Éliard was born in 1981. Formerly a journalist, she is now a teacher. She already published four novels, including Danser (Marcel Pagnol Prize), and a collection of short stories, Nuits de noces (Société des Gens de Lettres’ Prize for short story, paperback edition published by J’ai Lu).
