Une femme remarquable

Presentation
1925. In French Algeria, Germaine and Marius are young and in love. Marius works in a subsidiary of the Bank of France. They just got married and have everything to be happy. In 1926, a little Henri is born. Six years later, in 1932, Simone was born. When the little girl died suddenly at the age of 5, the couple is devastated. Other children are born, life goes on, but the dull pain of bereavement haunts Germaine all her life… Despite the grief, Germaine gets up and goes through her time with a lot of courage. Mistreated by life, she moves forward and, as a feminist before the time, she takes her destiny into her own hands. As a teacher, she taught her students about fraternity and equality. And freedom is born from knowledge!
In this saga of French Algeria from 1925 to the end of the 1950s, Sophie Avon’s novel tells the story of a luminous country and the itinerary of a strong woman, an endearing figure in the family mythology. She paints a majestic portrait of a grandmother she never knew, and pays her a moving tribute.
Sophie Avon is a movie critic for the Sud-Ouest newspaper and for the program “Le Masque et la Plum”" on France Inter. She is the author of numerous novels, including Le vent se lève and La petite famille.
