Presentation
Nina, a young thirty-year-old lawyer, works with refugees in Paris. They enter her office to find administrative help and an attentive ear. Among them, Shorab, Zied, Germude, Nour, Singuila, Awa, Fatou, Oksana, Issa, and many others... These men and women have left everything behind them, lost it all, and hope to find a better future in France. But the country of human rights requires them to give a precise account of their journey. Some have fled genocides, wars, some have been tortured, others have left a family that abused them... Nina must help everyone to tell their story, dealing with their cultures and personalities. Nina loves her job. If she also puts her heart and empathy into it, she always keeps a necessary distance of emotional security: it would take little for all these broken fates and their cohort of suffering to overwhelm her... When she breaks up with her fiancé the same day she learns about her father's illness, Nina falters. How do you deal with one's own misfortune: are intimate wounds still allowed to prevail in the face of universal misery?
