Piano ostinato

Presentation
Gilles Sauvac, thirty-year-old and Parisian, is a pianist. He enjoys a certain level of fame, which makes him able to live from his music. On January 7th, he must perform the Robert Schumann Concerto in A minor in a big music venue in Paris. As usual, he prepares himself very seriously: learning and understanding of score, research on Schumann’s life, long hours rehearsing, acquisition of the work’s nuances and colours… He needs time to make the Concerto his own. The day before the concert, Gilles is ready.
However, during the concert, few minutes after the beginning of the second movement, Gilles feels a pain in the middle finger, like a bite or a burn. The pain is dangerously growing, almost unbearable. Gilles grits his teeth, completes the work then quickly exits from the stage. Nobody noticed anything. But for Gilles, who nothing and nobody can relieve, this is only the beginning of the descent into hell…
Ségolène Dargnies is born in 1982. She has worked in publishing and at Radio France and now she teaches Literature in high school. She is the author of several sound documentaries. Piano Ostinato is her first novel.
