Presentation
Virgile, twenty years old, is the leader of a Roma’s group who is surviving in an urban slum on the edge of Paris ring road. Since he came to France, Virgile has a persistent dream: to bring his clan back to Romania. For that he needs money. Without scruples, Virgile turns into a dealer. But he is on Nury’s territories, a dangerous rival who brings his law mercilessly. Above all, Virgile met with Yasmine, the sister of Nuri: he is not insensitive to hers charms, and a rumour is already going around…
Will Virgile be able to carry out his projects: going back to his native country or stay here for Yasmine? And Yasmine, placed under house arrest by her brother, will she follow her desire for emancipation? Three intertwined destinies, which pursue each in their own way the same dream of freedom: to escape from their poverty. At any price.
With a lively and rhythmic style, Philippe Lafitte offers an uncompromising narrative through a dark and heartbreaking realisme. Urban and nocturnal, poetic and electric, the novel points out the invisible dramas which occur on the doorsteps of big cities.
Philippe Lafitte is the author of numerous novels, narrative non fiction and short stories, including Celle qui s’enfuyait, Vies d’Andy et Etranger au paradis. He is living in Brussels.
