Presentation
In 2005, the narrator is 19 when she is raped in a forest. Complaint, investigation, depositions, questionings: the police and judicial machines are activated. But due to lack of convincing clues and valid lead, the case is dismissed. Twelve years after the facts, through other investigations, a suspect is identified. The narrator is called upon again. It will take several more years of proceedings, but justice does its work: there will be a trial. In the meantime, the narrator has continued to live and love: she is the mother of a little girl and is expecting a second child. This new development brings her back brutally, rekindles her fears and risks reopening wounds. She thought she had buried the past, but she realizes that suffering is always lurking. Above all, she understands that the possibility of overcoming this story and being at peace with herself is finally within her reach.
Elsa Fottorino delivers here a sober and deeply moving novel, intimate and universal, which tells the daily life of the victims and the complexity of their feelings.
Elsa Fottorino is a journalist specialized in classical music, and a reporter for Classica. She can also be heard on France Musique. She is the author of several novels, including Nous partirons.
