Presentation
The scene takes place in 1950’s, in Paris, in the world of Haute-Couture. Ida is the workshop leader for a major designer, where she is in charge of the men’s collection. In this highly hierarchical environment, she occupies a privileged position, respected and feared by the little hands who work with her. She used to have a husband and a child, both of whom she left without ever hearing from again. She has never really known love: for the last 30 years, she has devoted herself entirely to her craft, and has lost herself in the contemplation of shimmering fabrics.
When Ida meets Jean, a graceful young model with grey eyes, awkward and nonchalant, she is troubled. She dresses him, adjusting fabrics on him, brushing up against him. Very quickly, she falls in love with his gentle presence and his mystery. When she invites him to have dinner in her studio, Jean has no idea of what is awaiting him…
Imbued with a highly romantic and Nervalian darkness, that runs counter to the times and the zeitgeist, Jennifer Kerner’s novel explores the working of seduction and evokes the hold of a powerful woman over a young man.
Ph.D. in archeology, Jennifer Kerner is the co-author of an investigation into women in prehistoric times, Lady Sapiens, translated in 10 languages. Le tissu de crin is her first novel.
