Presentation
De la vida mia could be the title of a painting by Miquel Barceló, a Catalan painter who lives between Majorca and Paris, but who also spent several years in Mali, in the Dogon country – a seminal experience. This book would be that painting: a large self-portrait bringing together pages of notebooks, photos, narratives, objects and faces. Colours and earth. One hundred and eighty images accompanied by notes on a particular aspect of his life. From the huge ceramic fresco in the chapel of Palma Cathedral in Mallorca to the dome of the Human Rights Room at the United Nations in Geneva, from gigantic works to more intimate canvases, the main motifs of his work can be founded everywhere: fish, fruit, animals, faces, caves, bodies, self-portraits.
Miquel Barceló welcomes us behind the scenes of his work, and shares with us his amazement at what remains with him, his childhood and the freedom to be in the world.
Born on 8 January 1957 in Felanitx (Mallorca,Balearic Islands), Miquel Barceló is an internationally renowned Spanish painter, draughtsman, enfraver, sculptor and ceramist associated with the Neo-Expressionist movement. In 2003 he was awarded the Prince of Asturias Prize for the Arts.
