Presentation
From the middle-class, Aurore has been brought up to respect the values of hard work. She used to see her father working himself to death, pretty often humiliated by his superiors. When he dies, she grieves him dearly. At the funeral, she bumps into the HR manager of the large company where her father was employed who had come to give him “official” homage. The same woman who refused him a salary increase: Aurore spits all her hatred out in her face.
Because Aurore is the very daughter of her father, she is also the legatee of a social class’ memory and anger. She evokes with nostalgia the places of her youth, rendering a moving homage to him.
Compléments du non, which deals with loss and world of work in a frontal way, is a hard impact novel full of emotions and irony.
Aurore Lachaux is a teacher. Compléments du non is her first novel.
