Presentation
The great classical pianist Philippe Cassard made his self-portrait from his walks in the Luxembourg Gardens. From Pierre Barbizet’s class, which gave him the elemental rules of piano, to international concerts and radio shows, his journey is made of curiosity, love of good food, humor but also high standards set for himself.
Like a farandole, episodes of his life come one after the other: Vienna, where he was a “page turner” for Richter and many other pianists, the Conservatoire of Paris, the decisive encounters with Magaloff, Horowitz, Christa Ludwig, Natalie Dessay, his enthousiasm for art and cinema, especially Fellini.
This book is a feast of wonderfull scenes in which he reveals his sensual relationship with the world, born from his physical relationship with the ivory and ebony keys of the piano.
Philippe Cassard, a reknowned french pianist, is also a musicologist, a critic, a producer and a radio host. He is a specialist of Schubert and Debussy whose work he recorded and studied. He was also an art director and programmer for diverse music festivals.
