Presentation
In the 1970s, at the age of 17, Véronique Chovin took dance lessons in Meudon with Lucette Almansor, the widow of Louis-Ferdinand Céline. The writer had been dead for ten years, in 1961. Over the years, she became Lucette’s confidante. Until she was included in his will.
Once Lucette is gone, in 2019, she will be at the heart of an incredible serial that will keep French publishing on the edge of its seat: the “miraculous” reappearance of previously unpublished manuscripts by Céline that were supposed to have been irretrievably lost… Which will lead to the groundbreaking publication by Gallimard of Guerre, Londres and La volonté du roi Krogold.
Véronique Chovin recounts the incredible story of this resurrection, and the editorial and testamentary tensions that ensued – as well as the story of her unfailing friendship with Lucette – in a sensitive and moving text.
Véronique Chovin has written academic works on Antonin Artaud and René Crevel. In 2001 she published Céline secret at Grasset, Lucette Destouches, épouse Céline in 2017, and Devenir Céline, lettres de Louis Destouches et de quelques autres (1912-1919) at Gallimard.
