Presentation
Alice is twenty years old when she is admitted to a psychiatric clinic. For her, it’s a new and shattering experience, but other patients have been here for a long time. In this microcosm, affinities are born. Despite the illness, the quirks and the drugs, Alice’s youth and vivacity win her the sympathy of the other patients. In particular, she forges intergenerational friendships with a group of very endearing women. They all have their own unique story, at once banal and violent. Through their contact, Alice gradually becomes aware of her own ailments, and reclaims her own history, her body and her wounded intimacy.
In this first novel, through a raucous and sometimes raw language, Alice Botelho takes an uncompromising, hard-hitting look at mental health.
Alice Botelho is 25 and lives in Switzerland.
